Almost over

Today starts a Week of Meetings: Academic Committee, planning, full faculty, division, department. You name it, it's meeting.

This doesn't mean that there's not a ton of work left to do before we're ready to say "Welcome Back, Students". Far from it. It means that there's work to be done after all the meetings. Which means late nights.

Why does the last week before school starts have to be such a rush, particularly when we've had all summer to prepare?

Lazy, I'm beginning to think that the summers of academic personnel disappear into that same mysterious place as lost socks. Mine also evaporated before I was fully prepared for my students... but I'm seeing them tomorrow, ready or not!

I've decided that too many people have too many group projects while in college. They think that, in real life, we have to have a committee meeting for everything. Sometimes I'd just like to complain about a decision that has been made without first wasting my time in the meeting during which my opinion was ignored. Yes, I've been in meeting hell myself.

it seems to be the same in many places. working in financial services it's now the time when people realize that the bosses are going to be back from vacations and nothing was done in their absence along with the yearly reviews are going to be written up starting in september so they have to now make noise to show that they're worth more money.
reminiscent (sp?) of salmon, swallows, etc......
